Wood Turning with Chris Mitchell : 30 -31 March 2026 (2 days)

Chris Mitchell is a Master Wood-Turner from Tasmania with more than 40 years experience. Chris started wood turning as a 13 year old, learning from a library book and commenced his Wood Turning apprenticeship in 1986. Chris has been a full time professional production woodturner for his entire career and has an incredible wealth of knowledge to share.

This two (2) day workshop will introduce you to the craft of hand wood turning. You will learn about the workings of the wood lathe and the various tools of the trade. This will be hands-on learning to turn wood by making a variety of different household items, each chosen to demonstrate and show you the different techniques of turning; eg: spindle turning, end grain turning and face plate turning.

We will cover safety around the lathe, the variety of tools and accessories and tool use techniques, all whilst making different projects. You will be expertly guided, step by step; the main objective of this workshop is to introduce you to wood turning, create, enjoy the process and take home new knowledge and your finished creations . . . and have fun.  

If you have ever thought about giving wood turning a go, either for the first time - or you have been turning but would appreciate some guidance and hands on instruction by a master turner, then this is an opportunity to join a small group for this immersive workshop experience.

Coffee and tea is available all day, BYO lunch. 

Class begins at 9.30am in our Tylden Workshop and will run through until 4.30/5.00pm. 

Tylden is near Woodend and Kyneton in Victoria's Macedon Ranges.

Positions are strictly limited to 4 people on this workshop. Due to course preparation and wait lists, if a position is cancelled less than four weeks prior to the start date, we are sorry, but 50% of your deposit payment is not refundable. You may transfer or pass on this course booking (for these dates only) to another person if you are unable to attend. If the course is unable to run and is cancelled by us your funds are refundable.
